Infertility &
In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF)
I take a special interest in patients with infertility problems. Both partners need consideration and joint consultations are encouraged for the initial assessment. Some problems can be overcome with simple approaches, and I am therefore pleased to be associated with the Australian Council of Natural Family Planning . Other problems need high technology, which I am able to provide through Sydney IVF.
Recurrent Miscarriage
This is a particularly challenging aspect of my practice. Patients with recurrent miscarriage deserve special care and attention, which can be jointly provided through my practice and Sydney IVF’s recurrent miscarriage program. Justine Taylor at Sydney IVF provides superlative help and support to my patients who are dealing with this distressing problem.
Endometriosis Surgery
My interest and expertise in the treatment and management of endometriosis has been long-standing and is globally-recognised. I have 20 years experience in advanced laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis: it has been the essence of my practice.
Improving quality of life for endometriosis patients has always been my main focus, and the best outcomes often occur for patients with the most severe disease. This has sharpened my interest in patients with severe colo-rectal endometriosis, which is so often misdiagnosed and poorly treated.
I accept that surgery is not a cure for all patients. I therefore continue to explore alternative therapies and approaches and new ideas.
Fibroid Surgery
Conservative surgery (conservation of the uterus) for uterine fibroids has become more common in recent years. There are two reasons for this. Many women are deferring childbirth until later years when fibroids are more common and may impact upon fertility. Secondly, many women choose to treat menstrual problems more conservatively with removal of their fibroids and retention of the uterus.
Fibroid surgery can be very difficult, and each case needs an individualised approach.
Hysteroscopic (Intrauterine) Surgery
I have been doing hysteroscopic surgery for the treatment of fibroids, adhesions (scarring) and congenital abnormalities since the late 1990s. This was when the necessary instrumentation first became available in Australia.
The ability to visualise problems within the uterine cavity, and in many cases undertake surgical correction, was revolutionary at that time.
I now have extensive experience with this surgery, and it is the focus of my current research.
Colposcopy and Abnormal Cervical Cytology
The treatment of cervical pathology and abnormal smears is an integral part of my practice.
